Strength Training
Michigan Fitness Association: What is Strength Training
There is a growing body of evidence that strength training contributes to a person’s longevity
It can be done on your own or with an instructor.
Strength training, also known as resistance training or weight training, is a form of exercise that improves physical strength by causing muscles to contract against outside resistance. This resistance can come from free weights, weight machines, resistance bands, medicine balls, or even your own body weight. While strength training is often associated with lifting weights, it also includes bodyweight exercises, isometrics, and plyometrics. Consistently engaging in strength training can build muscle, enhance endurance, and improve overall physical performance.
